The Hotel Candanchú lies at the head of the Valley of the Aragon, 1 km from the French border.

PLACES OF INTEREST
JACA
An important tourist centre, this market town is the first stopping-off point along the Aragonese route of the Pilgrims?s Way to Santiago. Its rich history is visible everywhere, thanks to its numerous works of art created over the centuries.
The main places of interest are
- Romanesque Cathedral (11th century): the oldest and most important romanesque cathedral in Spain.
- Diocesan Museum: Interesting collection of medieval ars sacra in the cathedral´s cloister.
- Citadel: Impressive fortress built in the time of Philip II. Pentagonal in shape, and surrounded by a moat, it is classed as a National Monument. Inside is an important collection of toy soldiers.
- Rapitán Fort: Gem of military architecture. Situated at the top of a mountain with spectacular views.
- Monastery of Benedictine Mothers
- Clock Tower
- Bridge of San Miguel
PILGRIMS WAY
In its Aragonese section, the Pilgrims? Way runs through the valley of the river Aragon´. The places worth seeing are the ruins of Santa Cristina Hospital in Candanchú, many romanesque structures, medieval bridges,and Jaca, with its pilgrim´s hostel.
SAN JUAN DE LA PEÑA
Cradle of Aragon´s Kingdom. Monastery of the 10th, 11th and 12th centuries, in marvellous surroundings. It was given the title of National Monument in 1899.
ROMANESQUE ARCHITECTURE
The whole area is dotted with romanesque buildings, and you should make every effort to visit the following:
- Jaca Cathedral
- San Juan de la Peña
- Churches of Santa Cruz de la Serós
- Monastery de San Adrián de Sasabe
- Church of Castiello
- Hermitage of Iguacel
The river Aragon Valley is an extremely beautiful natural site, featuring high peaks such as the Pico de Aspe and Collarada, many lakes of glacial origin and great acres of dense forests and green grasslands.

- VALLEYS OF HECHO, ANSÓ AND AISA Picturesque, beautifully situated villages combining romanesque art with traditional Pyrenean houses. You will also find here the finest and most authentic Aragonese cuisine.
- CAVE OF LAS GÜISAS (VILLANÚA) Astonishing caves which have been formed over a billion years.
- PIRENARIUM (SABIÑÁNIGO) Pyrenean theme park
- CANFRANC´S INTERNATIONAL TRAIN STATION. This surprising art nouveau train station of the early 20th century is currently being restored.
- PANTICOSA THERMAL SPA (Thermal water, lakes and idyllic landscapes)
- NATIONAL PARK OF ORDESA AND MONTE PERDIDO.
- TRAIN OF ARTOUSTE (FRANCE) Lovely ride on a tourist train across part of the Pyrenees mountains.
- NATIONAL PARK OF THE PYRENEES (VALLEY OF ASPE / FRANCE) only a few kilometres away, in France, you will find an important nature reserve where the last Pyrenean bears live.
- LOURDES (FRANCE) Important Marian Sanctuary and pilgrim centre commemorating the Virgin of Lourdes. |
